Installation "The cell" in the Kunsthaus, Hamburg 15.November 97 - 04. January 1998. The cell in the „Kunsthaus is a closed room, surrounded by other cells. All knowledge of this world is stored inside and this knowledge reflect the outerworld. The cell looks for and needs contact to the outside and seeks a way to survive. It has to open and at certain point it must dissolve. At the installation in the Kunsthaus a small door gives a view to the outside, or depending where you are to the inside. If you go into the cell you may be inside but you are also outside. The cell openes to all directions. On the floor you will find the words: Earth, Erde Terra which brings you out to an imaginary point, others details that you will find in the cell bring you back to yourself or again very far away. The walls are white. The dimensions of the "cell" are 2,20 x 2,20 x 3,00 meters. There is an opening on the left side and a kind of window so that you can have a look inside. On the opposite side you will see a human figure, sitting on a chair at a table. The material of the figure is black felt. It is a silhouette, cut out of felt and stuck on the wall. It is not clear, if this figure is looking into the room or out of the room, also it is not clear if he is regarding the observer or is looking very far in the imaginary room. In front of the figure - maybe 5 - 10 cm - is hanging a transparent paper to increase the depth.. A second exit or contact to the outside is on the right wall: stones suggest a broken wall, so that you can leave. A third exit is situated on the left side: A real table and a chair where the visitors can sit. He will find two books on the table, one is a book made by myself with pictures and text about the universe, the stars, the moon and the history of evolution. The second book is completely empty. The visitor can write something down, if he likes. The floor will be covered with red plastic and the following words are written on it: Earth, Terra, Erde. There is always a possibility to go out with your thoughts in order to survive you have to go out and make contact. The space of life for the homo sapiens is not only tied to the earth.
